Still a Classic

At the risk of boring my readers and followers, I am writing about The Fulfilm XF35mm 1.4.

This Lens is 11 years old; seriously old technology by 2023 standards. If my online studies and research is anything to go by, Fuji Shooters who own and use this Lens still regard it as a classic within the FujiFilm Ecosystem.

When I first got this Lens in 2014, I remember feeling, I liked it. It’s a small Lens with a gutsy presence when mounted on my X-T1. I really enjoyed the look of the images I created from 2014.

I must say hand on heart, I have come to appreciate this Lens even more now since the start of 2023.

Many photographers speak of the character and rendering magic this particular Lens has. I take their word for it. I can only go by the look and “feel” of the images I create. I am no expert on the optical construction of a Lens so I cannot and will not embarrass myself trying to talk about it.

My images speak for themselves.

The weather in London is seriously overcast right now so I am really giving my White Balance a BOOST - I like warm images but not too hot.

I am paying attention to the emotional warmth and texture in a scene. I must thank David Hobby for getting me to think much broader regarding White Balance; it plays a very important role in the emotional impact of an image.

These images were created at F2.8 with my White Balance dialled up to Kelvin 5900. The Light was cold or it left me feeling cold and pissed off.

This time of year sucks because the vibe in London is miserable; that’s how I experience it.

Spring is around the corner, fingers crossed the quality of the Light will improve. The XF35mm 1.4 thrives on warm Light - I am looking forward to creating images during this period.

All I can say is this Lens is very lovely to use. I really love it for Portraits.

To be continued.

Thanks for reading.
