F22: Storytelling

I chose this tiny Lens for one critical reason.

F22.

Yes, it’s a tiny Lens.

It’s a Fujicron 16mm F2.8 - on my XE 3 it’s such a tiny package you would think it capable.

I was seriously tempted with the XF16mm 1.4 but that Lens is huge and most importantly, it only goes to F16.

Why is F22 so important to me?

My coach Bryan Petersen inspired me with the beauty of this Aperture setting for story telling compositions.

This Tiny Lens has been described as not in the same class optically as the 1.4. The important distinction is how are you going to use it?

For me, 16mm on my Fuji equals 24mm on a full frame camera. 24mm is the sweet spot for wide angle photography. This means, strong foreground interest, middle narrative and closing chapter in the distance.

24mm and F22 is a match made in heaven for epic sharpness through out the frame.

With the Aperture set, Shutter Speed dialled in and ISO where it needs to be, I pre set my manual focus to 1 meter and take the shot.

Epic sharpness front to back.

In thinking about the16mm 1.4, this would be useful in Low Light so it has a place should I need to shoot at wide open Apertures.

For long exposures, my tiny 16mm F2.8 is perfect - on a tripod, slow shutter speeds gives perfect results.

Technique is everything.

Having a great coach like Bryan saved me money and gave me an awesome appreciation for how things work in my camera and Lens set up.
