Framing & Composing

The 35mm Frame is the industry standard.

That Frame from a Roll of Film set the context for all that we create as image creators. In the digital world, the 35mm Full Frame is the same dimensions: 24mm x 36mm.

The diagonal measurements of the 35mm Frame is 42mm. Logic tells me the appropriate standard Lens is 40mm. -

On my Fuji, the XF27mm eq is, drum roll wait for it…..40.5mm.

This tells me they got their maths wrong back in the day when the 50mm Lens was added with brand new Leicas.

The correct standard in my testing is 40mm. This Lens is absolutely perfect for my eyes. Nevertheless , I have trained myself to see as my lens and use the right Lens for my subject matter.

35mm is a beautiful Frame.

So is the 50mm.

Training myself to see as my Lens has given me confidence in how I use my Zooms like the stunning 16-80mm F4

Seeing Wide

Seeing Long

Is a smooth transition in my visual storytelling.

Today, I was creating images seeing through the classic Frame of 35mm.
