Fresh & Natural Vision

Fresh & Natural Vision - this has been my mission since the start of 2023.

I now understand what this really means.

Throughout my journal and ”Blogging”, I have shared my point of view, my gear choices and my various projects using different focal lengths.

This Journey and Journaling has been about me trying to answer some important questions about my Photography and my Authentic Vision.

Authentic Vision to me equals, how do I see the world around me?

I did not start this personal enquiry until after taking Joel Meyerowitz Online Photography Class. He stressed the need to find your Lens and stick with. His Lens was the Classic Lens of 35mm. At this time, I was not sure about my natural vision.

Natural Vision has become my magical expression.

As you look at these images, you are now experiencing the world through my eyes. My eyes revealed to my natural - spatial - awareness.

My eyes revealed to me that my awareness of space and depth is most natural at 28mm.

In Lens terms, 28mm means The XF18mm.

This is the Lens for my eyes and how I render the world around me.

Now I don’t own this Lens, my XF18mmF2 stopped working so I am currently using my XF18-55mm F2.8-4. I have taped the Lens down at 18mm with Gaffer Tape. I am using this Kit Lens as a Prime Time miracle.

This gives me F2.8 right up to F22.

In using this Lens today, I made an additional discover. This Lens is Wider than the wonderful XF23mm/35mm, but not as W-I-D-E as the epic 16mm/24mm.

This means, when I use the 18mm, the scene matches what I see but without optical effect produced by the XF16/24mm. The 18mm tenders the scene how I experience it.

Although this Lens is a perfect match for my natural expression, I still make every effort to use it correctly.

This is a storytelling Lens; like all good stories, the opening paragraph sets up the narrative. The foreground interest must bare some relationship to what is going on in the Frame. This is what makes this Lens such a fantastic tool in my Kit.
