Grantham | Rutland Water

Rutland Waters is a marvel of man made design and construction.

This expanse of Water is a Reservoir which provides house hold support for a major part of the country covering the Midlands.

The original landscape for The Reservoir was called Eppingham Reservoir. Construction was completed in 1975.

This area also provides rich support to the wildlife that now flourishes.

I was very happy visiting this place because I had it in mind to make one specific Photograph; The Normanton Church

The Normanton Church sits right at the end of a rocky out reach on Rutland Waters. It’s a wonderful sight and Landscape to create an image.

I worked this scene very carefully, looking for unique angles and framing.

No matter where I stood, I found an interesting perspective to create an image. I then realised what made this Church so compelling to me was the fact that it provided a wonderful end point and punctuation for the surrounding area.

I love creating story telling images; images that have great depth of field and layered with a relevant foreground interest, leading into the scene and ending with a grand expression,

The image above is a lovely example of layers all working together. Rocks at the beginning of the Frame, leading towards the Boat and Gate entrance.

Here is another expression with a cleaner rendering.

This image is less cluttered than the one above.

I took a short walk to the east side of the Church and discovered a nice patch of land with tall Trees. I thought it looked interesting and saw a natural framing of the Trees around the Church. This image reveals a little bit more of the surrounding water the middle distance.

I am happy with all of these images because I found it a great exercise is seeing. A step ladder would have given me another option. A slightly elevated platform would have revealed more of the surrounding Reservoir. I will consider that for another time.🪜

This was a lovely time and adventure. I will return because there is a lot more to see, particularly the Wild Life.

Thanks for reading.
