Sweet 16
November 4, 20211.4 or 2.8.
I chose 2.8 simply because of F22.
The 16mm on a crop sensor is equal in field of view to a 24mm on a full frame.
The XF16mm F2.8 has an Aperture of F22.
This is pure photographic storytelling heaven.
The depth of field is epic.
I have mentioned this many times and will continue to do so simply because it reinforces my technical knowledge.
I am currently doing a shooting review of the stunning XF 16mm 1.4. This Lens is optically superior to the 2.8 - so I have read.
I need to test this for myself.
So far, I can honestly say……I LOVE IT.
The 1.4 has a character and optical texture which I love. I don’t have the words to describe this feeling.
I can see it in my images.
I will test this 1.4 at night during low light and Long Exposure Blue Hour.
I have already tested the depth of field at F16mm - that’s as far as I can stop down my Aperture. With a pre-set hyper focal distance of 1.5mm the sharpness through the frame is superb.
For close-up imagery, I don’t need a Macro Lens.
The 1.4 can focus as close as 15cm which is decent. I can’t wait for the Butterflies next summer.
For now, the 1.4 has won me over - I knew it would because I have always loved the 16mm on my Nikon Dx bodies and my classic 24-70mm F2.8 on my Full Frame D750.
I am doing a 30 day review so this will continue everyday with my usual narrative.
To be continued.
