Fuji Lens are simply FANTASTIC.

No ARGUMENT.

Not from me.

They have released a new 50mm with an Aperture F1.0 and it comes with a very fast Auto Focus.

I was drooling and then common sense kicked in. This Lens cost a small fortune, what’s the difference between this and the XF50mm F2?

My common sense really kicked in when I realised the cost of the F1.0 was simply for a slightly bigger hole.

Sheer Madness.

It just so happened, I came across some images on Instagram shot with a Lens I had not heard of, The Kamlan 50mm…wait for it….F1.1.

Are you kidding me?

I did some quick research and discovered some interesting facts.

The Kamlan 50mm F1.1 was an ok Lens.

It generated some interest like The Artisan 35mm F1.2.

The first version did ok, the MKII has had excellent reviews, the images appeared even better and the cost for this Lens was simply astounding, less than £200.00.

I took the leap of faith.

It arrived last week.

It’s a very BEAITIFUL LENS AND OPTICS.

Read that again…

As you know I have a thing for faces and the F1.1 Aperture is there if I need it.

The Shallow Depth of Field is dreamy.

I love it , however, I love detail on my Portraits and tend to shoot around F4.

This Lens handles beautifully

It’s dam heavy, all metal, it’s fully loaded.

Being a Manual Focus Lens doesn’t mean any thing to me.

I Zone Focus and immediately became aware that my Portrait distance from Lens to Subject is approximately 1.5 metres.

I set my Xpro2 to Focus Peak High Red and position myself 1.5 metres from my Subject. I preset the Lens to that distance and with teeny tiny steps, leaning forward or backwards, I can see the Red Peekies move across the Subjects face and once the eyes glow RED, I take the shot.

Shooting at 1.1 only the eyes will be sharp and the rest of the face drift into out of focus hues, it’s quite lovely. Around F4, the face has more detail which I strive for.

The dreamy look I save for women and context.

So, this Lens at 50mm is my natural field of view on the crop body. It feels perfect, very little adjustments needed to create my composition.

I know where to stand.

I suffer with Gear Acquisition Syndrome like all the rest. I am glad my common sense kicked in because I saved some serious money and I honestly feel The Kamlan 50mm F1.1 can and will compete against the 1.0 offered by Fuji.

Thanks for reading.
