2020 Vision | Natural Vision

It has taken me many years to understand the term Field of View, the 1.5 Crop Factor and many other terms associated with Image Creation.

On top of that, I had to learn how each Lens sees: Wide Angle, Mid Range and Telephoto.

Wide Field of View, Normal Vision and Narrow.

Once I understood it as a concept, it made no difference to my experience of shooting.

There was one piece of the puzzle I had not factored; what is my natural Field of View?

I see out of only one eye, this is due to a lazy eye. I am right eye dominant and my right sees rather Wide.

This means my normal field of view is off.

Using a Prime 50mm Lens doesn’t give me the correct field of view most photographers have with good vision.

Would you believe my natural one eyed Field of View is equal to 28mm?

My lazy eye and my good eye means my vision is almost panoramic.

Once I made this discovery, I had a breakthrough in using ALL of my Lenses.

It all made sense.

I now understood the direction I was heading in.

I shoot Fuji and have enough Lenses to start a car boot sale. I have used all of them and understand their characteristics and zooming with my feet has become a very good exercise.

When I got my XT1, it came with the stunning XF18-135mm F3.5-5.6

This Lens at 18mm is equal to 28mm on a Full Frame.

So 18mm for me is my natural and normal visual expression.

The 50mm would have been if my eyes behaved properly like most people.

They don’t, so I have had to recalibrate my understanding of this complex topic.

All of the images in this journal were created using the XF18mm F2 on my XPro 2.

I LOVE IT 😊

This little Lens is sensational.

I read reviews on it and they weren’t overly enthusiastic about this Lens.

It was part of the original trio of Lenses that Fuji put out with the original XPro1: 18mm F2, 35mm F1.4 and the 60mm F2.4

I have 18mm on my 18-135mm which is good.

The F2 version is a Prime Lens and this will stay on my XPro2 for the next week ahead.

This is my vision.

I have a Lens built for my eyes.

So I Look forward to sharing my vision of London during this Pandemic over the next few days.

To see the world as another sees it is a beautiful thing. This creates the possibility of understanding the roots of a persons identity and self expression.

Thanks for reading. X
