2020 Vision | Time Traveler

If I could go back in time to the birth of The XPRO1 series, I would experience exactly what I have done over the last week.

When I placed my order for this eight year old camera, I wasn’t sure if I did the right thing. I already own the Xpro2 which is a marvellous feat of 21st Century Technology.

So the big question for me is why?

I mentioned in my previous post how the experience of Charlene Winfred and Dave Kai Piper inspired me.

They both expressed with deep passion how the image quality from the XPro1 is what made all the sluggish handling and quirky behaviour worth while.

The Camera I received was slow, sluggish and just plain archaic in comparison to my dream machine XPro2.

The only way I would be happy with this is if the image quality lived up to its name.

I have committed to using this camera and the XF 35mm 1.4 for the next 30 days.

One thing I have noticed since updating the Firmware; I have s-l-o-w-e-d right down.

Incidentally, The Firmware Update has given this camera a good solid injection of speed. I did a quick test with my 35mm F2.

I can feel patience creeping into my image creation.

No burst mode shooting, I manual focus with Back Button Focusing. This has given me back some of my stealth speed.

I am blown away by the experience I am having creating images this way.

I am learning some new strategies and understanding new things about the Xpro System.

Armed with the 35mm 1.4 and the amazing 18mm F2, I have in my tool kit a system all designed at the same time 12 years ago. I don’t have the 60mm which completes this kit. I am looking on the 2nd hand Market for this Lens because it’s a good range for Portraits.

So this Time Travel experience has brought me up to date. To the Photographers who got this camera when it first came out, I acknowledged you for sticking with it.

I must acknowledge Adam Bonn.

Adam lives in Porto and has run the most comprehensive Blog on the XPro1 Camera and all of its inner workings. It has become a great resource for me.

Also Charlene’s Website here and Dave’s here.

This Camera is growing on me.

I had a feeling it would.

As for the image quality, what do you think?

Today, I paired the XPro1 with the 27mm and my god it was double stealthy. Such beautiful form factor.

Stay tuned for the ongoing discoveries with this astonishing Camera
