2020 Vision | Trust The Process

I started taking Photography seriously in 2013.

That’s seven years of shooting and creating image all over the world.

I am proud of that.

When I purchased my first DSLR, the Nikon D90, my sole intention was to travel and document my life.

What happened would take me on an adventure that would enrich my life.

Over the last few years, I began to question my motives; why am I doing this?

My answer was very simple; Photography as subject and technical discipline has allowed me to relate to being alive in a very special way.

Relate to life; allow me to expand on that.

It’s all relationship - my relationship to being alive. This means feeling connected to life in all of its manifestation.

This image above stopped me in my tracks today because I felt the energy of life break free in spite of a man made construction of a house.

This image also created today was an example of the how the light broke free through the gaps of leaves to shine upon the red Rose. The Rose was dying, in the brief moment I created this image, I was struck, if only for a moment, by the gesture of light and life.

As a visual story teller, my observations have expanded towards faceless and candid expressions.

I don’t need to see the face: this is not a portrait moment, no, this is a story about a gesture of life. You, the viewer, should feel the expressive gesture without seeing the face.

I am trusting my feelings a lot more now.

Trusting colour, the light, the expression.

Once the image has been created, I ponder why did I feel this way in this moment?

This is a beautiful process - I am coming to terms with who I am.

When it comes to Portraits, I trust the moment and my ability to ask for the gift.

What next?

I have no idea…

I will just allow life to present to me those moments of magic that makes feel alive.

Thank you life.
