BC-2025 | Trip To Lincoln
February 10, 2025My Birthday is not until Friday 14th, however, my celebrations have begun. It started with a trip to Grantham to spend the weekend with my dear friend Heather.
Grantham is part of Lincoln and this was my nearest station to get off. The image above is the spot where boy Wizard Harry Potter makes his way to Hogwarts.
Not a bad starting point for any Traveller; Kings Cross is very photogenic so I created a few interesting images prior to my trip.
Arriving at Grantham was straight forward, no fuss. My friend Heather took me to a lovely place called Hattie's Tea Room. A lovely Cake Shop named after a little girl.
Hattie's place was perfect, a very enchanting place for snacks, cakes and all needs catered for.
The Tea Shop had a BIG WINDOW, this meant gorgeous natural light coming into the Tea Room - perfect for a Portrait.
Speaking of Light; the weather and climate sucks. Moody foreboding overcast English weather. This means flat Light which kills my colours.
My Trip to Lincoln Cathedral and Castle was great in spite of the weather.
This ancient landmark goes back to 1200 - it was around this time The Magna Carta was written.
A Democratic Document which meant the rulers of the land would be held accountable and everyone treated with democratic fairness.
Lincoln Castle is also home to Lincoln Prison which was first opened in the late 1700. It was built to hold individuals awaiting trial. It closed its doors for the last time in 1878.
The Prison is constructed from red bricks and provides a stark contrast to the Castle and Cathedral off in distance.
It felt eerie standing inside the cells. I kept wondering about the men and women incarcerated. How on earth did they cope mentally and emotionally, let alone keep warm?
My final tour of the grounds featured access to the Castle perimeter. It was quite high up and I felt dizzified.
On leaving the Castle grounds, my friend Heather treated me to one final stop which was "Steep Hill".
Steep Hill is really STEEP and the warn you.
Well that about sums up my weekend in Lincoln. It's becoming a yearly visit to see my friend. We always have a good time and I am grateful to Heather for her warm and kind hospitality.
Lincoln is a fascinating part of the United Kingdom and full of character and historical significance.
Well worth a visit.
On my journey home, I struck up a lovely conversation with a young lady named Amy. She sat opposite me on the train. I find train journeys tedious. I keep my mind occupied by reading and practicing sleight of hand. Amy became intrigued by my shuffling. I showed her a card trick and we chatted all the way back to London.
Life is really interesting when armed with a Camera and Deck of Cards
