Captain Tintanic

One of my great joys in life are the unexpected encounters I have meeting people. This is why I NEVER, leave home without my camera.

I saw “Captain Tintanic”, aka Major Mick Stanley at Little Venice yesterday. What caught my eye was the colour of his Union Jack costume.

I was immediately taken by his character and expression.

I engaged him in conversation.

What I found most intriguing was his little, man made Boat, called “The Tintanic”. It looks like it was made from sheets of corrugated metal. It was triangular shaped, with floatations attached. The special attachments featured holding devices for his two oars.

It was fascinating watching him get into the Boat. He did it with real care and precision.

The whole point of this was Mick’s desire to raise awareness and funds for Children in Need.

As I watched him row away up the Grand Union Canal, I was struck by this encounter and what felt.

I felt privileged and greatfull for this encounter. To meet someone like Mick who was fearless and enthusiastic about his Boat, chatting to people so freely, allowing passers bye to create photos of him. His generosity of spirit made this a joyful engagement.

I am greatfull because he described himself as just another eccentric Brit. I felt his eccentricity is what made this image so compelling.

Check out Major Mick’s Just Giving Page for details of his work.

Safe travels Mick, watch out for the Mini Ice Bergs🤣

Thanks for reading.
