Carnival 2022 | People Vibes

Carnival 2022 with be remembered by me for the people I met and interacted with.

The image above got created out of an engaging dialogue; the young man on the right saw me approaching and said “yo man, why so many people walking about with cameras”? That was it, the fuse was lit and we started chatting. I simply asked “can I make a photo”?

Further up the road, I saw my old friend Kevin.

We went to the same primary school. Kevin is a musician and percussionist.

Lily and Deborah | I met them at my Caffe on Sunday morning. They saw me practicing with my cards. A quick magic routine was followed by this lovely portrait.

The party people showed up in full force and they engaged with me and many other photographers I saw documenting the event.

All inhibitions are lost on Carnival weekend. This makes it a fantastic opportunity to get out and create images. I experienced zero fear creating images.

My apprehension keeps me sharp and vigilant but I am never fearful. If I see the moment, its mine and I create the image.

My philosophy is simple; create the image, apologies after if required - don’t forget to SMILE 😊.

Carnival weekend is all about stories; people write the stories, my job is to be open, receptive and responsive.

Every photographic discipline can be practiced when documenting an event. I specialise in Portraits - the human face is a landscape full of mystery to me.

I love nothing better than creating images of people that zones in on their face. The intimacy and engagement is a beautiful thing - especially when they feel safe with me and allow me in.

I saw this young lady in red pants looking so fine and gorgeous. I approached her and said “Miss, I love your vibe, can I make a photo of you, I am documenting the event and all the dynamic people I meet”?

She was lovely, her vibe and spirit was pure expressive energy.

It’s moments like this that reminds me the human spirit is pure joy.

This was my last image on Sunday. I saw the golden light on the face of my friend Serap. The light was gorgeous I created this image while she was in quiet repose.

As a documentary image creator, people are the heart beat of my images. Immersive image creation is my voice.

Welcome to my world.

Thanks for reading.
