Street Photography

My Definition

First and foremost, I consider myself a Photographer.

It’s that simple

In 2013, I set out to fully learn, understand and master how to create an image using this little magical Box called a Camera.

This is the foundation upon which my entire photographic identity stands.

To define Street Photography is to constrain my identity and self expression.

Street Photography is a Context inside of which Images can be created. This Context is amazing because it comes with a set of Techniques and Guidelines specific to this genre of image creation.

Something I learnt from my Landmark Forum; “Context is Decisive”. The context of creating images on the streets will be governed by this genre called Street Photography.

Let’s break it down further.

The Streets are the stage.
The Environment
Urban Landscape Vs Cityscapes
Candid Moments Vs Interaction
Street Portraits
The Human Element within the Frame/Context - The Streets.

When I look at this list of potential subjects, I can see a few Lens which would allow me totally flexibility:

XF18mm
XF23mm
XF35mm
XF56mm

The stunning XF18-55mm covers all of these focal lengths. It’s the perfect Street Photography Lens in spite of its variable Aperture F2.8-F4

So after that long analysis, I prefer not to give Street Photography any kind of Label, no.

What I will declare is the thrill and joy of creating images within this dynamic context.

Within this large context, my overriding project is “The Expression of Life” - A Celebration of our Humanity and Diversity.

My perfect set up for this context is:

18mm F2 & the XF50mm F2

Each Lens on a XT1 Body

Working with two Cameras is a fluid way to work with no loss of rhythm in my shooting style.

In this new month of February, I am hitting the reset button. I have been shooting solidly for 10 years. I am setting a new and refreshing context.

My other X-T1 is being serviced by Fujifilm Uk along with my XF18mm F2. I am currently using my back up Camera. When my Dream Team are reunited, I am hitting the Streets with this pair of wonderful Cameras and Lens. My intention is create a body of work that explores the dignity of the human condition.
