Fism Portraits

When I decided to travel to South Korea, I knew that taking my Fuji was a no brainer. I also knew the my Fuji 18-135mm would be the perfect lens to my XPro2. I chose this over the 16-55mm simply because I just felt the need for a little Telephoto reach.

Creating images of my friends, new relationships also meant having the option to create portrait style images and the 18-135mm performed perfectly.

I also traveled with the 14mm and it is a beautiful wide angle lens. It creates a perfect balance between subject and surrounding.

I have discovered that shooting different styles of photography has supported me in creating all types of images. This means learning how different focal lengths see. This has also meant being flexible and learning to use certain lenses not designed for portraits. The 14mm is not a lens for faces however a full body portrait within environmental context tells a broader story about the subject.

My 18-135 is perfect enough for scene compression and drawing intimate attention to my subjects face. I love the dynamic balance.

The take away lessen for me being here in Busan has been to learn how to use what I have and create.

This is what creating compelling portraits is all about.
