My Experience Shooting A Wedding

I said to myself Wedding Photography is not for me.

Coward😉.

Last December, my friend Steve invited me to his Daughter Amy’s Wedding.

I saw that as an opportunity to………practice.

I was there in my capacity as a magician to entertain the guest.

However, I had my XT1 paired with the XF 16-55mm F2.8.

This is a dream combination.

I created images of the whole event.

The Professional Photographer hired was brilliant and very kind.

We spoke, he gave me sound advise.

Relax, don’t stress.

It’s their day.

You are here to document not panic.

This set me up perfectly - I watched him work while quietly creating my own images.

Earlier this month, my friend Sary got married and I offered to create some nice images for her special day.

This was a Civil Wedding at the famous venue on Marylebone Road.

This experience was slightly tricky because of the lighting and my mirrorless camera.

Fortunately I had my flash and created some lovely images for her.

For this Wedding, I had the same set up along with my Xpro2 paired with the XF14mm.

The room was small and intimate - for family and friends.

So I documented as I went along.

The groom arrived early, so his images were created in the main room.

When Sary arrived I was outside under cloudy lighting, I changed my White Balance to create the consistent look.

Phew, the lighting in the main room was very warm so I needed to change things around to keep things looking good.

This was a great experience - I knew I could create the images.

What I did not know was how the light would behave given the fact I was operating in doors and out in quick succession.

I am glad I had my flash along with my Magmod.

Confidence comes from learning from our experience.

Working under pressure, knowing my gear inside and out.

Understanding the behaviour of light, all of this is required learning.

I am a Photographer and I can create images at a Wedding.

I know this to be true for myself because every month, I create images at a Sporting Lunch under tricky lighting. This is no different than a Wedding.

I am confident because my clients were delighted with the finished product.

I am grateful to Amy and Ashley, Sary and Ajs for trusting me with my camera. 📸
