X-Pro 1 | Still a Classic

With the latest developments in the Fuji Ecosystem, it makes my head spin with astonishment at the sheer options available.

My museum has grown - long before the lockdown, my collection of Lens and Cameras were set. I have what I need and very happy with my tool box.

Today, I just felt like using my old Camera and Lens. I do this often - it’s a great exercise in testing my knowledge and skill. Sometimes, I will shoot a roll of film. The act of creating is critical to my well being.

The process, the meditation, the focus, the stillness. Digital or Film it’s all the same discipline.

The X-Pro 1 and The XF18mm F2 came onto the market over 10 years ago. They have been replaced by The X-Pro 2 & 3, The XF 18mm F 2 is now a beautiful Lens with a 1.4 Aperture. From the reviews, it is being hailed as a stunning upgrade.

The Images in this post were all created using my old Kit. I still have it and I am not trading this in for love or money…..why?

It’s simple…

This old piece of gear is a throw back to vintage retro image creation.

The Camera has only three things I need to focus on - Aperture, ISO and Shutter Speed.

The Camera is fully Digital, but I use it as if it’s a Film Camera. I turn off everything I don’t need.

My Workflow is:

RAW

Kelvin 4500

Shutter Speed 1/250 or 500th sec

Provision Film Simulation

These settings allow me to see what my intended vision will look like once I edit the RAW files.

I prefer to edit the files from this Camera.

I feel my edits are much better than the JPEG’s straight out of Camera. Besides, this camera has no WiFi functionality. That wasn’t implemented until the X-Pro 2.

Even the RAW files converted to Black & White look great.

Today’s has been very good.

The Light was bright and fresh - very little clouds.

As for the Lens, I love this 18mm - it is small and truly amazing for depth of field sharp images.

To be continued.
