The Expression of Life

I felt all of these images today.

When I go out for a walk with my camera, I have no agenda about what to photograph. It’s like the moment saying to me, “I am yours today, take my photograph now”.

I have to be ready for these moments, it’s a special feeling that hits me. When I take the shot, I may take a few more and compare. I will delete some images and keep the one I want. More often than not, I get the shot in the first instant and moment.

The woman with her back to the world; one moment, although she did turn around and saw me with my camera pointing at her, I just acted natural. I did not want to speak to her because I felt she was closed off.

The shot with the man and his son, another moment, I took the shot and moved on, no time to waste. My heart engages first and then my conscious brain and photographic skill take over.

I look wth my eyes, see wth my mind, feel with my heart. Camera techniques all flow immediately after that moment. The man on the boat was funny, he saw me before I even took his shot, I smiled, he smiled back and then I caught him.

I saw this lady last week. The Warwick Avenue Train Station had closed down because someone had been injured. I asked her if the person was ok, she said they were. We chatted for a bit and then I got up and took this shot. The beauty of a Wide Angle Lens is the field of view. I wanted the lady in the shot without disturbing her mood. Foreground interest is critical for story telling composition and maximum depth of field. I took this shot without any fear simply because my attention was focused ahead of me, while the Wide Angle worked its magic.

This final series of images really captures the beauty of my neighbourhood. The expression of life in Little Venice is energetic, serene, tranquil and at times busy. This area is right in the heart of office blocks, the A40/M Motor Way, Paddington Station and yet still, it manages to maintain a wonderful, peaceful energy about itself. I love living here, it is a place I never tire of photographing. I feel and learn something new every time.
