The Frame

This is where it begins.

The Frame.

35mm is the industry standard context for creating an image.

This Frame from the days of film Photography set the bench mark.

It’s makes perfect sense to me and my thinking that the 35mm Lens is a perfect match for this Frame / Field of view.

What I find interesting is how the 28mm and 50mm became the standard Field of View for the Classic Frame.

There’s no right or wrong just accepting the options available.

28mm matches how my eyes work.

35mm also fits within my field of view.

50mm becomes a much more intimate narrative as it cuts out all extraneous information.

Filling the Frame is a legitimate technique which allows only the subject matter to dominate the frame.

The long standing debate has been about choosing one Lens and sticking with it - usually a 50mm.

I am glad I didn’t follow this route.

I decided to follow the teachings of my Coach and learn the visual vocabulary of all my Lens. This has given me a data base of knowledge - knowing how each focal length behaves.

Different subjects = Different Focal Lengths

I would love to create an intimate Portrait of a Lion with an 85mm - that’s a Portrait Lens.

Common sense and a long Lens dictates that I don’t end being meal of the day.

So, right Lens for the right subject is the way forward.

Thanks for reading.

Onwards.
