The Premier League Vs The National Team

England will never have a better opportunity to win the 2018 World Cup than NOW.

After watch the game against Colombia last night and the manner of execution in their Penalty Russian Roulette, I am convinced they can win this tournament.

Mind you, from what I have seen of France and Mbappe, they stand in their way.

If France and Brazil make it to the semi Final, my money is on France to win. So a France England Final is on the cards.

Its all rather subjective and yet this is my gut feeling.

The title of this post was inspired by a qoute I read years ago; "you can have the best Premier League in the world or a Great National Team, unfortunately, you just cannot have both".

When you look at the world game it is truly is mutil-cultrual. All the top clubs around the world feature more european and international talent. Home grown talent has to feature along side this startling ensemble.

English players alongside European, South American and talent from the far East makes it fascinating for a Saturday afternoon of Premier League action. The Champions League takes it up a notch.

Now when its World Cup time, Englsih players have to contend with playing against their teams mates from other countries.

I often wonder how this has impacted the fortunes of England in the past at International Tournaments because other countries face the same problem too.

Brazilian players with any spark of magic eventually end up in Europe. Ronaldinho was the most gifted player from Brazil I have seen in recent years. His skill and wizardry, goals and assists were off the charts, Messi, Ronaldo and now a new star on the horizon Kylian Mbappe of France.

Harry Kane and Gareth Bale, great talent from the our shores have lit up the stage with stunning performances.

In fact,Gareth Bale is responsible for inflicting pain on Liverpool in the Champions League.

So, what does it all mean?

On one hand, nothing.

On the other, our fortunes in this World Cup could depend on how well this England Team measures up against familiar faces they see week in week out.

It’s a fascinating tournament,

Like I said, I believe this is a perfect time for Gareth Southgate and his boys to write a wonderful script to compliment 1966.

Can you imagine?

I can. 🇬🇧
