X-Pro 1 | Viltrox 33mm 1.4

The Viltrox 33mm 1.4 is a magnificent Lens.

It gives a field of view equal to a 50mm on a Full Frame - 49.9mm, thats close enough for me.

Today, I thought I would pair pair it with my X-Pro 1, my everyday camera. To my delight, they make an excellent partnership.

With it being a Bank Holiday weekend, the Sun has been blessing us with wonderful Light.

The X-Pro 1 Sensor has magic inside it. It renders the Light/Subject perfectly. Pretty much like my beloved D700. The quality of the colours and contrast is something to behold.

As I walked along The Grand Union Canal, I stopped and created images of where the Light was falling.

My chosen Aperture was from F5.6 up to F11 depending on how much depth of field I wanted.

Most importantly was my Shutter Speed: I set it to 1/125 of a second. I adjust as I go along. My ISO I adjust as I need too. It is a really beautiful this way of working.

I find with the 50mm field of view, I need to get truly physical with my scene, working, zooming with my feet, bending down on one knee, standing behind the fence to create the image of the Boat Motor. It’s a tight Frame - a beautiful Frame nevertheless. In fact, the 50mm Frame communicates the subject with no distraction. If there is any context to the scene, it doesn’t dominate - its a faithful representation.

The 50mm Lens is a Frame that makes you work for your image. No room for laziness or complacency.

The Viltrox 33mm 1.4 is great pairing with the X-Pro 1. Fuji has a spectacular version which has been receiving high praise.

I am delighted with this Viltrox because it works very well with the first generation Sensor.

As a Portrait Lens it is wonderful.

It has been a fun day using this walk about Kit. I found the auto focus quick and lively. I will work this some more tomorrow.

Thanks for reading.
