XF10-24mm | Academic Learning

I have had this Lens for a few years. It just goes to show how long it takes for appreciation to kick in.

When I got it, I just felt I needed a Wide Angle for my Images. I used it a few times, but not with the focused learning I have engaged in this week.

Creating images is all about seeing potential. Choosing the right Lens for the subject is a massive learning.

My intention with this academic study is really to consolidate my natural vision; 28mm is my sweet spot.

If I choose to go wider, say at 10mm which is 15mm Full Frame, I can do so because the subject demands it.

This study has introduced me to the secret of creating great photographic essays. There are three core elements:

  • Setting The Scene
  • Acknowledging The Subject
  • Detail & Elements that contribute to the visual narrative.

This study is leading me down an interesting pathway. I find the photographic essay really interesting. Using my images to document a specific project along with written content. This I find very appealing.

I am currently studying “The Minds Eye” by Henri Cartier Bresson. It’s an excellent Book on this topic. Also a stunning Book by Gordon Parks called “The Making of An Argument”.

The Photographic Essay goes deep into the narrative of life, expression and complex motivation that communicates the human condition.

I feel intuitively this ongoing study will sharping my vision and instincts. Especially when building rapport and engagement with people.

It has been a good day.

Thanks for reading. 🙏🏽
