2020 Vision | The Bigger Picture

Having a great Subject matter is important.

My Subject has become even greater.

This lockdown has inspired me to study.

I have been studying photography deeply this year.

The Light has become my muse.

Ambient Light and it’s natural always on expression reveals a temperamental nature in this part of the world.

So it means embracing overcast days, moody clouds and the unexpected sunny day.

This is fine and important because natural lighting is what it is.

Seven years ago, I purchased a Speed Light for my Nikon.

The SB700 was a complete mystery to me. The instruction were confusing beyond belief.

I even had coaching on it - my instructor said “stick on TTL and leave it, focus on the shot”.

I left that classroom none the wiser.

I didn’t touch my Flash again for a few years.

Would you believe me and my Speed Light now have a working partnership bordering on MAGICAL?

Studying On and Off Camera Flash has made me realise that Light is Light.

The Sun was switched on 4.5 Billion years ago and hasn’t switched off.

Ambient Light is always present.

The Light from my Flash/Speed Light is what I now consider to be my complimentary Light Source.

My Flash supports me to create the image expression I want no matter what the lighting conditions.

As rule now, my bag has a Speed Light and some form of diffusion.

This means I can create.
