Deer Hunting In Richmond

I decided to get up early to go deer hunting.

Richmond Park is not far from where I live, and the best way to get there is to catch the overground from Willesden Junction. I’m about 40 minutes north from Richmond and it was a very easy journey.

I really like to document every stage of my adventures, simply because there’s always something interesting to see along the way. I like to keep my eyes and mind open to that possibility. Today has been a glorious day with the light being very warm and gentle, either behind or side lit and visiting Richmond was perfect.

It was a very long walk to the park entrance from Richmond station. By the time I got to the entrance, I created a few images along the way and felt like I’ve done a great workout in the gym.

The entrance to Richmond Park has a very royal feel about it. This is one of the most famous parks in London and features a very eclectic range of wildlife and protected. Visitors are reminded not to feed the animals but to enjoy the environment and nature.

It was a warm day, but cool. I’m glad I had my overcoat, but I did experience myself getting very warm because the walk was long once I got to the park and even longer before I spotted any wild animals. I was hoping to photograph some Stags but didn’t see any.

I must’ve walked from the entrance for about 30 minutes, deep into the park before I saw Bambi and his friends.

The Stags must have been grazing in a different section. I did not see any today. I was very happy with my collection of images. My intention was to test my gear. I was shooting with my X-T2 which was paired with the stunning XF50-140mm F2.8 and my X-Pro2 paired with the perfect Travel Lens, the XF16-80mm F4. Most of these images were created with the XF16-80mm F4. I used my other Lens only to keep my distance and not disturb the animals.

I am going to Africa in September and felt the need to test my gear. I have a very solid and capable wildlife set-up.

On the way back to the station, I created a few more images; it was another long walk.

Wildlife Photography is different ballgame.

South Africa will be an experience.
