FV | Preparing for an Adventure

Every adventure begins with preparation.

My next adventure is no different.

I won’t say what it is for now, I will simply share my preparation and why.

Over the last few days, I have been experimenting with different focal Lengths.

Yesterday, my Vision was set to 35mm.

Today, I set my Vision to 28mm by using my XF18-55mm F2.8-4 set to 18mm.

This gave me a wider field of view compared to the Classic 35mm Frame.

If you have been following my Journal, you will know how much I love the 27/28mm field of view.

It is wide but not aggressive W-I-D-E.

Like the Classic Frame of 35mm, the 28mm adds a visual punch to the 35mm Frame with depth and visual nuance.

I find this really appealing because with a good environmental subject matter, the moment comes alive with power and inviting seduction.

As I mentioned at the start of this conversation, these images are just a practice and preparation for a forthcoming adventure.

Using different Focal Lengths is preparing my mind and visual data base.

My coach Bryan F Petersen taught me and many of his students to go out and practice seeing what our different Lens see and internalise that vision into our photographic data base of knowledge.

I took this to heart because it makes perfect sense.

I know how my Wide Angle behaves, my standard 50mm Behaves differently to a Telephoto. This means I will not be confronted by any scene or moment that captures my interest.

So, yesterday was 35mm, today was all about the wide 28mm, join me tomorrow for a little walk with the industry standard 50mm Lens.
