Monochrome Vision

This has been a very educational process.

I recently watched a few Videos on Black & White Photography. They all offered up different, subjective points pf view.

I appreciated the point of view by Alan Schaller; “Shoot Black & White on Purpose”.

This advise goes against what I have been doing all week; Shooting Colour to see the different shades of grey.

Alan creates his images using a Monochrome Leica Q. Yes, a classic Leica which has been designed with a sensor that only records in Monochrome.

It cost £4,800.00.

I understand his thinking; shooting in monochrome on purpose is a good way to see the contrast in shades of grey and quality of Light.

Fortunately for me, all of my Fuji Cameras can Shoot in Monochrome. Monochrome is a Fuji Film Simulation that I can use. It turns off all the Colour I would normally see through the Electronic View Finder. What I am left with is a world full of Black, White and different tones of grey.

I have now dedicated my X100F as my Monochrome only Camera. I gave set it yo shoot RAW and Jpeg Fine. This allows me the flexibility to see my exposure, make adjustments to the tonality before hotting the shutter.

My Shooting workflow will remain the same. I see no reason to change the way I like working. Colour first, Conversion an artistic choice.

My Fuji X100F is a nice option if I am feeling in that mood.

Monochrome Vision begins with my Vision, it great knowing I fave the tools to bring my Vision to life.

Thanks for reading.
