Practicing In The Dark

My first passion in life is Magic.

I have been a student since 1974. Sleight of Hand is my dharma.

As a young boy I was obsessed.

I practiced like there was no tomorrow.

I even practiced in the dark.

Lights off, sometimes I would cover my eyes just so that I could develop my sense of touch for the cards.

This supported me in developIng my technical confidence to an unconscious level. This means I could trust myself and focus exclusively on my audience during performance.

I am now practicing my image creation in the dark.

Since my last post, I have set my X100T to 3200 and left it, Aperture Priority at F2 and my shutter speed came in at just under 1/60th sec for this shots.

This process of shooting at night is to feel comfortable with high ISO EV. The Grain in images is a natural by product. Photographers of the past created great images that were grainy, out of focus and lacked a certain sharpness. How on Earth would our generation cope with the tools of fifty years ago.

Guess what?

We would just get on with it, learn our craft, adapt, compromise and just love the process.

The camera manufacturers have brainwashed us with the latest and greatest advancement in digital technology. I still shoot on 35mm Fuji Film - it’s a beautiful experience. I do this to remind myself to take every shot seriously.

Each frame cost me money.

Why should I be complacent with my digital freedom?

Am I free with digital technology?

No

I can be a slave to it, rather than a master of the craft.

My craft of magic made it clear to me from day one, this is going to take work.

I am glad I walked the path of champions.
