The Expression of Light
March 23, 2022It occurred to me that Light is a subject of its own.
It has quality, direction, texture, intensity and a malleable energy.
Using the Light to define a subject is the normal procedure.
What about Light as the main subject?
This I find very interesting.
Shooting into the Light.
This means everything else becomes a secondary subject.
Or to put it another way, the secondary subject becomes a Silhouette, crafted by the Light.
I find this contrast beautiful.
The most interesting parts of an image receive very little light. This draws you into the visual narrative.
This image of my mother is a deliberate underexposure to reveal just enough shape, form and detail.
When I turn on my Flash, we have a perfect expression of Light - a Light that shapes, reveals and sculpts a defined subject.
This really is a beautiful and magical subject.
Thanks for reading.
