I am still on the first Assignment.

I felt the need to practice and consolidate my learning.

These images were created by paying attention to the Light and where the light was falling. Also, I have been using Spot Metering, to target a specific area to ensure good exposure.

Spot Metering confused me until I understood it’s value.

I think of it like a laser sharp tool that zones in on a specific spot or area where the light is falling.

I then expose that area to ensure decent clarity and detail in that specific area. This may mean certain areas outside the light specific area may fall into the shadows. That’s ok, I shoot in Raw more, this allows me the possibility of recovering detail in my shadows if I choose too.

I am very excited about this because it means I have gained a little more insight into understanding creative exposure.

Understanding Exposure is a wonderful Book by Bryan Petersen. It’s required reading and study. When I first read it, I was astonished because I was shooting in full manual mode 30 minutes after reading the first few chapters .

Between Spot, Centre Weighted and Matrix Metering, that’s all bases covered. I have a better understanding because the light determines how I must respond in the moment to ensure a creative exposure.

Understanding Exposure, interpreting the light is pure magic.

Thanks for reading
