Immersive Image Creation
September 3, 2022I am experiencing a shift in my creation of images.
This features everything I have learnt over the last 9 Years.
Street Photography is such a dynamic expression.
It demands so much from me; the number one core skill is a fearless get the shot spirit and mind set. I did not have this 9 years ago; my spirit was far too apprehensive for this discipline.
In the last few years, I noticed and experienced myself creating images without conscious thought. What I mean is, my technical skill was no longer a concern, I know exactly what I am doing with my camera. I was no longer afraid to create images on the street.
I have experienced a few moments of conflict which I defused with straight communication and stillness of presence - people backed off immediately. I am not out to scare or intimidate anyone. I refuse to be intimidated especially as what I am doing is not causing harm or breaking any laws.
With this image, I spotted this playful interaction between a father and his son. Before I knew it, the moment was stored on my memory card - it’s that quick.
I see, I feel & I create.
I saw these two skaters coming towards me - I also spotted the Diverted Traffic Sign; I stopped walking and waited until they entered my frame.
I participated in Joel Meyerowitz’s online Course. He taught us to own the streets. Everything is fair game, have a smile on your face and be charming.
Still moments speak to me as much as interactive opportunities.
Once I caught sight of Joseph on his stool, I thought this man is so cool. I introduced myself, I mentioned I am street photographer and I loved his cool vibe. He was taken with my honesty. I asked him if I could make a photo of him. He was very gracious and kind. He liked the photo. I said I would send him a copy.
Immersive Image Creation is about getting close, breaking down barriers, intimacy and good will with all my subjects.
The beauty of this goes very deep - every image I create is an acknowledgement of the humanity I see in people.
I cannot think of anything that comes close to this glorious expression of life.
Thanks for reading.
