Playing With The Light

Photography is truly a magical process.

Painting with Light is the accepted definition of the craft. I have been actively engaged in studying all that this entails since 2013. It is only now making sense.

It’s all about seeing, reading and feeling the Light.

You read that right; FEELING.

As Bruce Lee once said, “Emotional Content”.

What this means is, cultivating a relationship with this core element. I must say, I get very excited when I come across a patch or shaft of light.

It occurred to me, the most dramatic images leaves a lot to the imagination. This means concealing, shaping and being selective about what I want to reveal in an image.

Less is much more because I want my viewers to participate in and with my images.

Sometimes, striping away all of colour means the light can sculpt and reveal shape, form and gesture.

Other times, colour is the message and needs nothing else to speak its messages.

I am still searching for my photographic style and identity.

For now, I am happy on my quest, knowing that I am seeing the light and all its magic.

This is the most important step because with out light, I would be fumbling in the dark.

Genesis, “Let there be light”.

“Light makes photography. Embrace light. Admire it. Love it. But above all, know light. Know it for all you are worth, and you will know the key to photography”.
